"Millions served,” Del.' Guest continued, “leaving their civilian lives to take up arms. Many left with trepidation, but they served valiantly."
Del. Guest asked that the servicewomen, as well as servicemen, who fought in combat theatres around the world, be remembered. He called the proposed monument to Vietnam-era servicewomen a “fitting" tribute to their contribution.
And, he added, “they also served who stood in waiting — the wives, children and parents of those who made the supreme sacrifice, that those freedoms which we take for granted are still preserved."
Mr. Guest said that he found it fitting that the observance of Memorial Day began with the Civil War.
