Fire officials believe a kerosene heater was responsible for a fire last Friday at the Cab Inn apartments on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville which left the family of John 'Hiomas Keys III homeless.
According to Assistant Chief Richie Burke of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department, the fire started in the apartment’s bedroom, near where a kerosene heater was standing. Tangela Keys and her eight-month-old daughter Critidice were home at the time, and reported the fire at about 9:10 a.m. They got out of the apartment without injury.
Chief Burke said When firefighters arrived on the scene, smoke was visible in the apartment and also under the eaves all along the structure. He explained that it is an older building, and is constructed with a
