The Yankees refused to rest, scoring six more time sin the fifth inning on homers by Groves, Jimmy Pennell and O’Meara’s second roundtripper of the game.
With the league championship in their grasp, Dorrell and the Yankees seemed to sense victory and reached for yet a little extra effort. The hardthrowing right-hander struck out the final two batters to preserve his no-hitter and take the league crown.
Dorrell ended the game with 17 strike-outs in the championship game.
The victory was the third time in four matches this season that the Yankees won against the Orioles, but the O’s were the only team to beat the Yanks during the regular season.
Though the Little League season has ended, the coaches, sponsors and fans extend invitations to the Rappahannock Athletic Association picnic on Saturday, Aug. 4 at Stuart Field in Amissville.
The RAA will present trophies to the winning teams, “and the kids will have a great time to remember if we, as parents and community members, show our concern by attending this special event and helping with the activities,” said an RAA spokesman.
