the Standards of Quality. At the high school 18 regular teachers, five vocational teachers, a librarian and two guidance counselors are employed.
In arriving at figures for the number of teachers to be funded, the state uses a formula based on 25 students per teacher in most categories. English classes and first grade classes are supposed to be held at a level of 24 students per teacher.
Thus the state, using figures from 1989 enrollment, says Rappahannock needed 8.38 first grade teachers for the 81 students then in first grade.
In administration, the state funding formulas have a similar effect. The two schools are expected to have a principal each, but since they both have fewer than 600 students, they are not funded for any assistant principals.
