The Board of Zoning Appeals voted unanimously to approve a special use permit for Sallie Atkins to build a family apartment on her 3.1 acre lot for her daughter and grandson pending approval from the Health Department for the additional septic system.
The 800-square-foot apartment is to be built over an 800-square-foot; unfinished basement. Chairman Louis G. “Butch” Zindel asked Mrs. Atkins about her plans for the basement.
She said it would have a cement floor and would hold the furnace.
“You are limited to 800 square feet,” Mr. Zindel said. “With the basement you could increase the size, and that wouldn’t be right.”
Mrs. Atkins said she understood.
County Administrator John McCarthy said he would be preparing a zoning amendment for the Planning Commission which would restrict auxiliary space for such applications in the future.
