When a legislator is elected, he (or she) feels that they must legislate . . . whether we need it or not. After all it’s their job, isn’t it? And another election will soon be along. I remember a Congressman running for election not long ago whose main claim to fame wasl how many new bills he had gotten passed. He lost me right there!
Will Rogers once stated that in his opinion Calvin Coolidge was the best president we ever had. When reminded that Mr. Coolidge didn’t do anything Mr. Rogers replied that during that administration we didn’t need anything done. Legislators, take notice! C’mon, somebody run on the “do nothing” ticket. Can you imagine a politician actually keeping his hands out of things for a whole term? Not only could he win an election by promising no new laws and thus no new infringements upon our freedom, but he could look into the validity of thousands of old ones.
