Bicyclist Matthew Lands, 18, of Reston, was pedalling his 1990 Schwinn on U.S. 211 when he tried to pass the slow-moving Taurus on the right side of the far-right lane of traffic, said Sgt. Morris.

The Taurus stopped, according to Sgt. Morris, then drove away after being confronted by Mr. Lands and another biker.

Mr. Lands was transported to the hospital for treatment.
