Since moving to Rappahannock County Mr. Darby has worked on the local Republican committee. He was precinct captain in French Slaughter’s 1990 campaign for reelection.
He has also been involved in the Friends of the Rappahannock Library, and worked to get federal and state support for new library building.
He is also providing fundraising advice to Windmore Foundation, a local arts organization in Culpeper County.
He sponsors the Rappahannock math, science, engineering scholarship that awards a $1,000 renewable scholarship to a Rappahannock High graduate each year.
Mr. Darby said he does not now want to state positions on such issues as development, the state’s financial problems, abortion, or elected school boards. “I have ideas of my own, but I want to talk with others,” he said.
Monarchs split
doubleheader
The Rappahannock Monarchs split a doubleheader Sunday, losing the first game to Woodstock 10-6 and taking the nightcap 10-7.
The Monarchs are now 5-4 in the Apple Valley League, battling for first place with the tournament coming up in three weeks.
In the first game Sunday Larry Freeman hit a homer, a triple and a single to lead the Monarchs at the plate. Shawn Fardrell was the losing pitcher.
In the second game, Reggie Williams had four hits, including a double and a triple.
Philip Daczewitz was the winning pitcher, and had nine strikeouts.
The Monarchs play their home games in Sperryville behind the Pine Knot Inn.
