Today, there are thousands of representatives like Mrs. Hales working through hospitals across the United States.
“When I was in the hospital recovering, a woman called on me. She was poised and confident and for someone who had had such devasting surgery, she offered me great hope," said Mrs. Hales, adding that within just a few years she became a representative, also.
“I wanted to be like her,” she said with a smile, alluding to the woman who visited her in the hospital 12 years ago.
After several training sessions, Mrs. Hales began her campaign working through Warren County Hospital in Front Royal.
“When I go into a hospital room 1 want to give the same impression,” she said, a tall woman of immaculate appearance.
In Borne cases, the patient will not be visited in the hospital and the first visit with a representative is at home.
She said that before entering the room she offers a "prayer for guidance that I might meet the needs of that particular woman.”
