“You don’t want to put any more obstacles in the farmers’ path than you absolutely have to. Taxes come to mind. And I’d like to see some more educational programs in the schools, and 4-H, F.F.A. (Future Farmers of America),” he said.
At present Rappahannock High students do not have access to a single farming class. “We have nothing in the way of agriculture or horticulture,” said RCHS guidance counselor Joyce Brown. She said there is “very little” demand for such courses. “We started talking last year about some kind of agricultural club, but had only one student interested, so it fizzled out,” said Mrs. Brown.
