Bike-a-thon in Flint Hill
This year’s St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital’s Wheels for Life Bike-a-thon will be held 9 a.m.-noon May 9 at the Caledonia Farms Road in Flint Hill.
Volunteer workers and riders are needed to raise funds for childhood cancer. St. Jude’s Research Center was founded by Danny Thomas.
Riders are sponsored per mile completed. All riders turning in money receive a certificate. Those raising $30 get a T-shirt; those raising $76, a sportsbag.
“We really need lots of riders, since the center operates from public support, primarily,’’ said Steve Young of Sperryville, one of Virginia’s first unrelated bone-marrow recipients.

Wakefield CDS admissions
Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly will hold an,.open house and placement testing at 9 a.m. May 9 for students who will enter grades pre-K through 12 in the 1992-93 academic year. Interested parents should contact the school business office at 703-636-8556 for more information.
Daily bus service is available within a 50-mile radius, including routes from Winchester, Woodstock, Strasburg, Luray, Manassas, Culpeper and Warrenton.
Workshop offered
A workshop entitled “From Recipe to Reality" will be offered to consumers who want to produce and package food for sale. The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 6 at the Omni Hotel in Charlottesville. The one-day workshop is co-sponsored by Virginia Tech Department of Food Science and Technology and Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. This workshop is intended to provide basic instruction in food safety, food processing, food packaging and Virginia food law. Registration which is $20 is due May 26. Athletic boosters to meet
Attention, all people interested in your home county sports! The newly formed Rappahannock Athletic Boosters need you! If you are interested in helping our own Rappahannock High School students have improved atheltic facilities, uniforms, and equipment, then wonder no longer about how to do it. Attend the next meeting of the boosters at the Rappahannock High School auditorium at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12. We will discuss fundraising ideas to help show our pride in our athletes.
Gate receipts and student fundraisers do not come close to raising enough money for uniforms, upgrading of facilities and equipment. In order to have the large sums of money required to run a successful athletic program we need to help our athlete.
