How good is the Rappahannock High girls softball team? They won two more games this week, one by 24 runs, putting their season record at 13-0,11-0 in the Bull Run District. If the Lady Panthers can take two of their last three games, at Brentsville May 8, at Central May 11, and at Strasburg May 14, they will get a first-round bye in the regional tournament and host a second-round game.
That would leave them only one win away from a state tournament berth, no matter what the outcome of the district tournament, set for May 18 and May 20 in Stanley, Page County.
“The girls’ goal right now is to go 16-0,” said Coach Renee Leake. “It’s very motivating. They’re playing to win.”
They won twice last week, 19-7 April 29 against Clarke County and 25-1 May 1 versus George Mason. (Although there’s a 15-run slaughter rule in high school softball, there’s also a requirement that teams play at least five innings.)
