truck skidded on the wet pavement and crossed into the northbound lane. Dorothy Sue Daniels, 46, of Front Royal, swerved to avoid the truck and ran off the right side of the road and hit a rock wall. Neither driver was injured, Moore said, and Phelts’ truck was not damaged. He estimated $1,000 damage to Ms. Daniels’ 1985 Buick, and $50 damage to the rock wall.
• Two motorcyclists were injured July 26 in separate accidents on the same stretch of U.S. 211 west of Sperryville.
Kimberly Ann Kraus, 19, of Woodbridge, was injured about 1 p.m. when her 1989 Harley-Davidson, skidded out of control one-half mile west of Route 667. Trooper Moore reported that Ms. Kraus said the bike skidded as she applied the rear brake on a downgrade. She was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain proper control.
About two hours later, at approximately the same spot, Moore said James Harold Cook, 48, of Baltimore, Md., lost control of his 1987 Yamaha when he failed to negotiate a curve. Moore charged Cook with reckless driving, failure to maintain proper control.
Moore reported that excessive speed contributed to the accident. He estimated that Cook was travelling as much as 45 miles per hour over the posted 25 mile per hour safe speed.
