Growing Season: The rains we’ve had this summer have made the county blossom. The gardens and (lower boxes in Washington are the prettiest in years. ; >.* ■ A special place is a garden on Gay Street, between Calvert and Middle streets (behind a Main Street home). Beautiful garden with* out walls for everyone to enjoy. Something thoughtful about that kind of planting. Speaking of fences: If you have to have one, two of the most striking old fences in Washington are the iron fences - one around Trinity Episcopal Church, the other at Main and Calvert. ■. ■ *9 American made: The county is buzzing with road work this sum-k "mer. Most highway construction in many a year. Fascinating to*f watch the giant machinery at work. Happen to realize the other day that all the equipment we saw was American made. Hoad shoulders have not been clipped very much. Blue corn | flowers, Queen Anne’s lace, black-eyed susans, red clover and thistles give the shoulders a pretty colorful look - to a point. Scutes To Remember: The double tree growing out of an abandoned silo on Rose Hill Farm. Either its the tallest tree around, or the silo was never emptied.
