The Rappahannock County Garden Club’s final meeting of the Virginia Federation of Garden Club’s year was held at the Fauquier Springs Country Club hosted by Helen Brown, Dottie Hooff and Marian White. Final reports of committee chairmen were presented to the regular and associate members in attendance at this luncheon meeting.
President Marian White congratulated the membership on the accomplishments for the year. The club organized a new Jr. Garden Club in August 1991, in conjunction with the Rappahannock County Extension Service, chaired by Garden Club members Helen Smith and Susan Rust. Also in August, the membership organized and hosted a luncheon meeting to which potential members were invited. As a result, seven new dynamic young members were asked to join the group.
The Rappahannock County Garden Club was well represented at the fall 1991 meeting of the Shenandoah District meeting of the VFGC which was held in Staunton. Three District awards were applied for and first place went to the local club in all three categories. During the last week in November, Whitcairn Farm in Flint Hill was gloriously decorated by club members for the Christmas season and the public was invited to an Open House as the Club’s gift to the community. The club also in November voted $580 for wild flower seed to be planted, in conjunction with the VDOT, in two fifty square feet sections in the median strip on Route 211. Work is anticipated to begin on the first section in the fall.
During both the spring and fall seasons, the membership continues their ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY program, picking up the debris on Rt. 2.11 from its intersection with Rt. ">22 for a length of two miles.
