This year the Garden Club undertook the planting of the area immediately adjacent to the new library and is maintaining during the summer months the new Junipers, dwarf English Box, and vinca which the club has donated. The Jr. Garden Club, not wanting to be left out of this project, donated five red Maples, financed by the senior club, and have undertaken the learning process of planting and maintaining a perennial bed which promises to be a source of beauty to the community for many years to come. Garden Club member Jane Peterson donated the plants from her extensive gardens. In addition, $300 was presented to the library for additional gardening books. A committee comprised of Nicki Lynch, the librarian, and members of the Garden Club made the selections.

A most successful Christmas workshop was held in December, enabling the members to sponsor two Rappahannock students to the VFGC Nature Camp at Vesuvius, Va. and to present a cash award to Amy Kellert, the leading scholastic graduate of the June graduating class of RCHS.

The Rappahannock County Garden Club w’as pleased to receive a Virginia Federated Garden Club State Award for Distinguished Work/Special Achievement at their state meeting held at the Sheraton in Charlottesville iii April. The Club rounded out its successful year bypresenting two scholarship grants - the first to Tonya Cave who will attend a two year community college anti the second to Sherron Boddie who will attend a four year college.

As the members were diligently carrying out the above goals to fruition, the members continue to plant and arrange; for that is what garden club work is all about. The membership may all take a bow as it was a year to be proud of and a second exciting year is in the planning for this administration’s second and final year.
