three in a row for me. It is hard to tell, they sort of blend together. You really cannot tell one from another.
It is, like I can tell you everything that happened and not have been there. Like a friend, a regular, was not there, which I know because I know he was in Maine, but a year from now he will swear that he attended and prove it by reciting everything that happened.
It is parties like this that make you realize why you buy liability insurance and why they won't sell it to everybody.
There were four or five bands that played. I lasted through three of them. Some of them are good and some are loud, then there are those that are good and loud.
I was expecting the event to open with the Star Spangled Banner but it didn’t. There was guitar tuning, drum beating and some one, two, three testing. It got better later; occasionally. I had to attend a dry party so I left about 8 p.m. They say I missed some good singing, but I know I heard it last year.
There is a lot of food contributed. There is always a feeding frenzy around the good stuff. This is usually conducted by the noncontributors. People who have gone to the effort of baking a cake, pie or lasagna have too much respect to fight over it.
Someone suggested that this party continue as a music meeting and that no booze be furnished. Most of the people who know and respect each other have already discovered that you don’t have to get drunk to have fun.
In fact it was my observation that the old regulars hardly touch it at all. And as the old hermit said, “Think of the money I save.”
