They said that when the move was first proposed they were told they would have the room Ms. Atkins uses for her office also. Now they had been told they would have only the long room the Board of Assessors used for meetings. Mrs. Leake said she would not be able to put all her records in that room and that she needed a separate room for those casting absentee ballots.
A letter from the Rappahannock Electoral Board noted that the location in the courthouse is convenient for people wanting to register. The letter points out that one week 23 people registered to vote. Seventeen of them had come to the courthouse on other business and were reminded to register when they saw the office.
Ms. Atkins said she could not give up the room she uses for her office, but she could give up a small room with a separate door that adjoins but has no door to the room the Board of Assessors used.
The supervisors adjourned to look at the offices in the courtroom and in Ms. Atkins building.
