Rappahannock County will be treated to an unusual concert this weekend at The Theatre in Washington when the Castle Trio, from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, will perform music from the early classical period.
What sets this concert apart, however, is that not only is the music from another century, the instruments are as well and the overall effect is to bring to the audience a most authentic musical experience.
A blend of historical and musical research has enabled the Smithsonian to duplicate the 18th century musical experience. And the artists have learned specific techniques in order to play these instruments which were the predecessors to modem instruments today.
The concert is the first in the new “The Smithsonian at Little Washington” series which will bring musical groups from the Smithsonian to perform in Washington, Va.
The Castle Trio with members Lambert Orkis, Marilyn McDonald and Kenneth Slowik perform music that is considered standard repertoire to classical musical audiences, yet their approach to the music and the use of period instruments offers most listeners a unique concert experience.
