the candidates for the high school equivalency certificate (GED) passed their exams and earned their certificates. Their success brings joy and inspiration to tutors and learners alike.
Besides instructing members of the general public, LVA Rappahannock has an ongoing program at the jail for inmates who are interested in improving their skill levels. Margaret Gottlieb and Ted Chapman have led this effort, with the kind cooperation of Captain Hitt of the Sheriffs office.
All of the instruction offered by LVA Rappahannock is performed by volunteers, who are supervised by Libby Whetzel; there is no charge required of learners other than a commitment to learn. The GED (high school equivalency) students and tutors meet every Monday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the county library.
Those wishing to start at a more basic level should call Libby Whetzel (675-3419) or Lee Bird (675-3263) for information. Anyone interested in becoming a tutor should also call either of the foregoing members. LVA Rappahannock needs both tutors and learners if it is to fulfill its mission of helping county citizens achieve their educational goals.
