was presented, called “Leaving Our Mark.” Ex-Chapter Regents taking part spoke of the special events surrounding the marking of graves by the chapter starting with that of Betty Washington Lewis, originally marked in 1928 and rededicated in 1973 as a 50th year anniversary of the Chapter. Pictures of the graves, dedicated and marked with respect and love, were shown and described.
Mrs. Eastham introduced the speaker, Mrs. Robert S. Lipes, State Regent, Virginia Daughters of the American Revoluntion. The title of her message was “What it means to be a DAR.” She spoke of the ideals of the DAR - which all members promised to support and which are all under attack in this country. She asked how far should members go being a DAR. It is necessary to learn how one stands in order to support the organization.
Honorary President General Mrs. Eldred Yochim gave a special thank you to Mrs. Lipes for what she said and reitereated her comments.
Special thanks were given to all who made the celebrations a success, especially Mrs. Edgar F. Puryear, Jr. who served as chairman and Mrs. Woodruff Kearns who wrote the skit.
The next meeting will be a walking tour of Madison on June 8 with members to meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Madison County Court House.
