Movie this weekend
“Close to Eden,” Winner of the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Festival will be the movie at The Theatre at Washington at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 6.
A comic, imaginative and breathtakingly beautiful film exploring the conflict of tradition and progress between a Mongolian sheep herder, determined to preserve his heritage, his wife who would like to move forward to the future, and the Russian truck driver who befriends them.
Program plans underway
The Fourth of July program for Independence Day in First Washington is in its final planning stages. If you have an appropriate presentation for this program, please contact Ellen Manson at 675-1349.
So far the program includes patriotic readings and songs, including a group sing-along, Colonial dancing, music by Ann Carroll of Williamsburg and two concerts by Paul Reisler and Martha Sandefer of “Trapezoid. ”
