Kay Larrieu, dean of academic studies at Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly, has received a National Endowment for the Humanities/Readers Digest Teacher-Scholar Award for the 1993-1994 school year.
Under the terms of the award, Larrieu is to spend the academic year conducting an independent study of a subject which relates to her teaching; she has chosen to analyze the complete Iliad and Odyssey in the orginial Greek. She will translate all 34,000 lines of the original text; read ancillary works about the epic in general, about Homer, and about echoes of Homer in Western literature; and meet regularly with her mentor, University of Virginia Professor Jenny Clay.
