Add Nursing
Home Beds
Marshall Manor administrator James D. Baxendale, Ph.D. has announced plans for the facility to add a 16-bed nursing home. According to Baxendale, the facility submitted an application in March for a Certificate of Public Need for the subject.
As a life-care facility, Marshall Manor operates under the concept of continuing care which recognizes the needs of the elderly as varying along a continuum from active residence to increasing health care needs.
Life-care communities should contain one nursing home bed for every three or four residential beds. Marshall Manor currently operates 96 total beds.
Following public hearings on the application and a complete review of the circumstances, the Northern Virginia Health Systems Agency and the staff of the Office of Resource Development of the Virginia Department of Health unanimously recommended approval of the request.
The new unit should be ready for occupancy by March 1994.
