Robb has been trying desperately, if unsuccessfully, to put his personal life behind him and get voters to concentrate on his senatorial record as a moderate so-called “New Democrat.” He has largely voted down the line with President Clinton who has already endorsed him for re-election. However, the presidential stamp of approval is likely to do him little good in Virginia which appears to become more Republican with each passing election.
