But the monthly expenses for cable may be spent in more productive ways by taking your children rollerskating or bowling or by buying them some new books.
Others may say that I am trying to shelter my children. They’re right! My three-year-old will not see R-rated movies and neither will I for that matter. I don’t believe they are good for me, either. And I have better things to do. Like living life instead of observing is passively on a TV screen or reading a book I choose instead of watching a show selected by some cable program manager.
Cable TV is here — competing with our family time, our reading time, our out-of-doors time, our quality time. Perhaps we should consider our options before we blindly but in: money spent on installation and monthly fees may not be the best investment for our families. Not only will it cost us money, but it will cost us a lot of work and worry, too — wondering what our children our putting into their precious minds. We can counteract the negativism of the “real world” — we can choose to turn away from Cable TV before it turns our nice community into another Nightmare on Elm Street.
