“I share the sentiment of so many hardworking Virginians,” he said. “We need to create more jobs in this country. We need to create better jobs in this country. We need to insure that our children have more opportunity.
“I share the basic goals of Virginians who oppose NAFTA. I just don’t share the conclusion that NAFTA will keep us from reaching those goals.
“I believe NAFTA is central to America’s strategy to compete and win in today’s global economy. I am firmly convinced that the fears most often expressed are much more likely to come to pass if NAFTA is not ratified than if it is.”
