Mrs. Fannon has an antique shop in Leesburg and said she simply wanted to move the business home.
Wakefield District representative Werner Krebser said he objected to calling the house the Fannons want to convert into an antique shop an accessory building since it is located “more than 500 yards” from their house. He said approval would set the precedent of spreading commercial development along U.S. 211 outside the villages and general commercial area.
He noted that the building had been used as a rental property for several years. “It’s certainly not an accessory building,” he said. “It’s a commercial establishment on Route 211. If we approve this we cannot afterwards deny any other commercial use.”
Mr. Fannon said the precedent would not be great because most people would not agree “to all we agree to.” He said the antique shop is no more commercial than a bed and breakfast on a farm.
