Summertime is the traditional time for travel and family outings. For a change of pace, an exposure to history, and a lovely garden to tour, try Montpelier.
Montpelier, home of our fourth president, James Madison, is located on Route 20, four miles south of Orange. In 1983, because of a provision in the will of the last private owner, Marion duPont Scott, renovation began to prepare this historic site to be opened to the public as James Madison’s home.
Currently, it is under the care of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
