producers Allison Argo and Reuben Aaronson spent several days on the land of Brenda and John Van Ness, filming at their pond, streams and tenant house.
Local children were brought in as actors. The first scenes were shot on Saturday, using four year-old Kelli Kvames as the little girl who decides to set her goldfish free in the stream near her house. She is filmed telling her goldfish that she is going to set them free; she is filmed carrying the goldfish bowl out of her house; she is filmed sitting on a rock and pouring the fish into the stream. For this last scene, one member of the film crew’s job was to catch the two fish before they got away. Also, a net was set up in case they swam away too quickly. Another member of the crew held a leafy branch above Kelli to cast shade on the scene.
Kelli’s mother Davette Kvames said, “She did it right because it mattered so much to her. I was so impressed with my little girl. ”
