The Northern District Extension Secretaries held their Spring InService at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria on Friday, May 6. The meeting was hosted by the secretaries in Planning District 9, which consists of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock counties.
Dr. Oscar M. Williams, program specialist of the Institute for Youth and Minority Entrepreneurship at Virginia Tech, conducted a workshop on “Parliamentary Procedure” during the morning session of the in-service. Dr. Williams was a most informative, not to mention entertaining-speaker!
Ms. Hariett Leithiser, Assistant Professor of English at Germanna Community College, conducted the afternoon session on “Business Letter Writing.” Ms. Leithiser encouraged the participation of the group with various exercises on punctuation, grammar, and letter writing.
Jan Palmer of the Rappahannock Cooperative Extension office attended the in-service.

Honor Students
Carl Ebom Jr. of Sperryville was among students who received honors and scholarships at Virginia Intermont College’s recent Honors Day ceremony.
The junior, who is working toward a major in photography, received the “Majorie DeFriece Memorial Scholarship” and was named to the Cardinal Key Honor Society.
Carl is the son of Mrs. Carl Eborn of Sperryville.
