rooster. When Mr. Koral opened the small door to the outside fenced in area, the hens squeezed through quickly to get outside to see their visitors. Mr. Koral announced that all of the chickens had been debeaked, so that if anyone wished to feed them from their hand, it would not hurt.
Before leaving “Chicken City”, Mr. Koral, who had been speaking to the group using a loud speaker with a microphone, startled the chickens with a feedback sound, and they all fluttered around, trying to get back into their house as soon as they could. That sight brought laughter from everyone in attendance.
A hayride was next on the agenda, to allow everyone an easy viewing of much of the 370-acre property, including several of the 100 head of beef cattle. Mr. Koral drove the tractor, and led the group into a huge pasture of grazing cattle. One of the group asked Mrs. Harris, “Are these yellow flowers buttercups?” She responded that they were and that out here we do not have to plant wildflowers, they just come up.
The visitors headed next to the Bleu Rock Inn for lunch, and finished the day with a tour at John Bums’ organic Goat Hill Farm in Tiger Valley.
