council members Reinhardt Lynch and Ray Gooch. They had intended to send the letter along with the letter signed by Mayor Willis, thinking that he would bring the letter to the Town Council meeting before sending it. Messrs. Lynch and Gooch, identifying themselves in the letter as the two-person minority of Council opposing the recommendation to terminate the investigation of campaign tactics, asked Mr. Luke to pursue the investigation to completion.
The last paragraph of their letter read, “We deem the continuation of the investigation to its logical, rather than its aborted, conclusion to be in the best interests of the voters, residents and taxpayers of the Town. We hope and trust the serious pursuit of the wrongdoers you have undertaken will, at your conclusion of the investigation, put to an end, once and for all, improper, unlawful and unethical campaign practices in Town elections, whether or not any individual is ultimately called to account for misdeeds by civil or criminal penalties.”
