For Rappahannock’s soccer families having the World Cup in the United States has been quite an adventure.
For many it has meant traveling, trying to find the games on TV because they have poor reception. Some with pretty good TV reception don’t have cable or satellite dishes and thus couldn’t see the games on ESPN.
For a few it meant attending a game in RFK stadium. Jeb Carney .and his sons, Mark “Ozzie” Pace and his sons and Richard Price, commissioner of the Rappahannock Soccer League took in the game at RFK between Saudi Arabia and Belgium.
The boys got a lot of just realizing how popular and colorful international soccer games are, Mr. Carney said.
Mr. Pace said he doesn’t have a TV and his family has seen some games in bars. They also visited his parents in Williamsburg to see games he said. “We’ve been following it pretty hard,” he said, adding that he’s probably seen well over half of the games. They have also been buying the Washington Post to follow the games that way, he added.
