Tour Scheduled
Due to a continuing interest in alternative agriculture crops, the Rappahannock Extension Office and the Rappahannock Farmers’ Association will be co-sponsoring an “Alternative Agriculture Twilight Meeting” from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 at Goat Hill Farm in Washington.
Goat Hill Farm is owned by John Bums who has 12 acres under cultivation including a small orchard and berries. Mr. Bums specializes in organically grown produce including: 25 varieties of tomatoes, 10 varieties of lettuce, a salad mix of young cut greens, squash, herbs, edible flowers, chilies, and raspberries. He markets his produce to Sutton Place Gourmet, a specialty market chain in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
At the twilight meeting, Mr. Bums will give a tour of his farm and explain his crops, irrigation system, labor, marketing techniques, and business managements. He has requested that we limit the number of participants to twenty so that he can give a detailed tour and participants can ask questions. He will gladly give another tour on a second evening if there is enough interest.

Directions: From Washington, take Route 626 South (Tiger Valley Road). Go one mile. Goat Hill Farm is on the right. Please carpool if possible since parking space is limited.
The Alternative Agriculture Committee is also planning a oneday tour to the Spotsylvania County / Fredericksburg area in August.
