Mr. Rogers said soccer fever has his boys playing in the yard constantly. For his birthday, Mr. Rogers’s father sent him a box of tapes of the games they had missed.
Mr. Price said he hopes the World Cup will help the Rappahannock Soccer League. He believes “the effect on the country will filter down into the county.”
He noted that the United States promised to start a professional soccer league as a condition of hosting the World Cup. The professional teams will have farm teams like baseball, he believes, and he added one may well be in Culpeper.
The automobile race track to be built in Culpeper near Brandy Station will also have 12 soccer fields, he said. Four will be developed for tournaments; and the other eight will be available for the Culpeper Soccer League.
Mr. Price said colleges have approached Culpeper about hosting games at the new facility. The first four fields should be ready by the fall of 1995, he said.
