Soil Camp

By JONATHAN MOORE and

July 10th through the 15th we attended the Soil and Water Conservation Camp as representatives from the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District. The district was also represented by Dana Dwyer from Elkwood.

The camp was held at Virginia Tech. Campers stayed in one of the dorms.

There were many interesting speakers at camp. They gave talks on what they do to conserve our environment. We received lots of reading materials and many handouts.

We got hands-on experience with soil and water testing. We learned about the layers of soil, what a rainfall simulator does, and how to test for different aquatic animals. We had as many classroom experiences as dhands-on experiences in the field.

We met many new friends from across Virginia and had a great time learning.
