•Do household chores which require water or produce heat during the coolest time of the day-early morning or late evening.
•Take short showers instead of baths and install flow restricting showerheads and sink aerators.
•Turn off lights not necessary for security or safety to cut back energy use and make your home cooler. Fluorescent lamps are more efficient than several low-wattage incandescent lamps. And the fluorescent lamps give off less heat. (
i *Cook outside on the grill whenever possible or prepare meals using a microwave oven or small appliances.
•Wash full loads of dishes, using a dishwasher, if available. (A dishwasher uses up to 43 percent less water than hand washing dishes.) Also, let dishes air dry. Use the energy-saver switch on your dishwasher or open the door after the final rinse and turn the dish drying control to “off.”
•Always use a cold water rinse and only run full loads of clothes when washing. Also, avoid pre-rinsing, which uses up to 70 percent more water.
