to be taught, the curriculum includes suggestions for ways to teach it and suggestions for literature that reinforces it. Mrs. Heddleston said The Book of Virtues edited by former Secretary of Education William Bennett has many recommended readings, and copies of the book will be provided for each grade level. Copies of other recommended readings are generally available in the elementary school library.
In addition each class is to select a “citizen of the month” who demonstrates the character trait selected for that month. These children will be recognized with a display of pictures of each class’s good citizen in the front lobby. They will also receive certificates at school assemblies.
A resource kit has been developed with various articles and other materials to help teachers with the curriculum. It will be kept in the school library.
