Virginia driver’s licenses soon will be even more difficult to alter for fraudulent purposes. On Aug. 1, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) began adding a “ghost image” to its digitized driver’s licenses and ID cards as an extra security feature. The ghost image is a smaller version of the driver’s photograph and is positioned behind the biographical information on the license. Attempts to tamper with the license will result in a visible alteration of the ghost image and surrounding information.
