In circuit court last week, Jake Thomas “Tommy” Taylor, 35, of Castleton, was convicted of manufacturing marijuana not for his own use.
Because he was tried without a jury, he has not yet been sentenced. That will happen on Nov. 14, when he could receive a sentence anywhere from five to 30 years, and be fined up to $10,000.
This was Mr. Taylor’s second trial in Rappahannock County Circuit Court within four months. He was convicted in April of attempted rape, attempted sodomy, sexual battery and breaking and entering, and is currently incarcerated in the Rappahannock County jail.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke explained that the case had evolved from an investigation involving another case.
Mr. Taylor’s attorney, Roy Bradley, said that there was no question that Mr. Taylor was growing marijuana. “However, we are not talking about a forest of marijuana. The defendant has been a user of marijuana over a period of time,” he said.
