Major Streapy said that he asked the defendant if he used the scale to weigh out marijuana, but Mr. Taylor told him that he just grew the marijuana for himself and his friends.
In a storage room, Major Streapy said he found a closed box with lights and five cups with marijuana seedlings inside, totalling 15 seedlings. He also found 13 marijuana plants under a light.
Deputy Connie Compton, who accompanied Major Streapy on the search, found a bag of green plant-like material on the premises. Major Streapy also introduced into evidence a bong (a device used for smoking marijuana) and several items which he felt were used for growing, such as fertilizer and Rootone.
Leaves, one from each of the 13 plants, were submitted to the Virginia Forensic Lab by Major Streapy for analysis, and they were identified as marijuana.
Special Agent* Hurst from the Virginia State Police testified that a crop of marijuana could be grown indoors to maturity within a period of two to three months. He said that the yield from one mature plant would range from one to three pounds of marijuana, and that the average weight of marijuana present in one joint would be about .0125 ounce,
