They also advertise in some magazines, which brings in many orders for the gift baskets. “The gift basket business is growing. People like a lot of variety and quality that they can get in our gift baskets,” said Mr. 1 Hutcheson.
The Hutchesons were lucky that their peach crop did not suffer too much from the cold weather last winter. Their rose bushes, however, did not survive, and there were dozens of them. They used to sell single roses, in all colors, fqr $1 each.
Next month their mum plants will be ready, and they will have about 1,600 to sell.
Mr. Hutcheson plans to retire from the insurance business in two years. He will then put even more time and energy into the gift basket business. “We are looking for a good year, and are excited about it,” he said.
