At Belle Grove
Belle Grove Plantation was built for one of the leaders of the Shenandoah Valley’s Anglo-German community, Isaac Hitt, Jr., in 1794. The design of the house was influenced by Thomas Jefferson’s architectural genius. Isaac Hite, Jr., was also the brother-in-law of James Madison. Belle Grove has survived 200 years to become the most important single site, both historically and architecturally, for telling the story of the lower Shenandoah Valley. Belle Grove Plantation is a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Tours runs from mid-March through the end of October. Tours are ' conducted from 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily; Sundays, 1:15 to 4:15 p.m. There is an admission charge, group rates by arrangements. Call 869-2028 for additional information. - -
