Scheer is opposing in the November election, voted against applying for Goals 2000 funding in the last legislative session.
“This is just another example of Mr. Katzen’s refusal to support public education,” said Mrs. Scheer. “The fact is there are no strings attached to the money now, and it’s highly unlikely that a Republicancontrolled Congress is going to change that. But should the unlikely happen, Virginia can opt of the program at any time.
“1 see nothing wrong with setting standards for all children and giving them equal opportunity for jobs and educational benefits,” Mrs. Scheer continued. “By refusing to accept $1.7 million this year and as much as $14 million over two years, Mr. Katzen is holding our children’s education hostage to some school-yard political posturing.”
