Flood Waters Once again tragedy has struck the community when a local citizen died in Tuesday’s flooding. In August 1979 Gene and Virginia Wood died when they tried to walk over a flooded bridge. Tuesday Kirk Davis died apparently trying to ensure the safety of his equipment as flood waters approached. Moving water is always potentially dangerous. Flood waters are far more dangerous because, not only are they moving much more quickly, but they also are carrying all sorts of debris. More rains are predicted. If you are in a high dry place when floods threaten, stay there. If you are not, try to get to such a place. Don’t risk your personal safety for your things. The community owes a debt of gratitude to the many people who joined search and rescue teams to try to prevent the tragedy. The fact that they were not successful takes nothing away from their effort.
