The three remaining concerts in the Cristofori’s season will include great works from Germany, France and Italy. Mr. Berkofsky acknowledged that it had been “A tantalizing challenge to select just a handful of compositions by the musical geniuses of these countries.*’
Selecting among compositions for the Russian program to be heard on Oct. 15 was specially challenging, Mr. Berkofsky said. The Rachmaninoff sonata has long been a favorite of his and of the ensemble’s cellist, Kang Xia. Because of its length it fills the first half of the program. The Trio has chosen to play the well-loved Tchaikovsky work for piano, violin and cello after the intermission. This extensive work comprises the entire second part of the concerts.
