Rappahannock enjoyed strong inside scoring and success on the boards from their inside players. Center Dawn Havstad scored 12 points while grabbing 5 rebounds. Forward Cari Kerr scored 10 points while cleaning a game-high 14 rebounds.
Coach Laura Conklin said after the game, “Early foul trouble disrupted our offensive game plan and forced us to make adjustments while behind.” The coach went on to say that for the rest of the varsity season the Panthers are looking forward to playing four quarters of solid basketball in each game.
The JV Panthers played an outstanding game Tuesday night and were led in all parts of the game by their star Sonya Wiggington. She poured in 19 points and almost made a long-distance three-pointer at the buzzer to give the team a victory. However, the shot fell off the front of the rim to leave the Panthers behind 29 to 28.
Both ball clubs will be back in action Thursday night against Central at the high school.
This week’s Panther Player of the Week goes to Cari Kerr. For the week she averaged 9.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while adding two blocks a game.
