Just when you think everything is going wrong, something goes right.
At least that’s what happened to the U-10 soccer team coached by Bob Wellemeyer and Steve Young. They won their game against a Madison team, 3-2, despite having shown up at the wrong soccer field.
Using information from an old schedule, the team descended upon a field in Criglersville only to learn that they were in the wrong place. They quickly caravaned over to another field by the town of Madison. Arriving five minutes after the scheduled starting time, they got themselves together enough to win, with Patrick Lowrey, Daniel Young and Hans Shankle scoring the goals.
“The whole team played really great,” said Steve Young, “considering that we all went to the wrong field to begin with.”
The U-12 team coached by Mike McKiernan shut out Culpeper, 3-0. Jeremy Graves, Jason Simeon and Timothy Moore scored the goals.
Carl Letsen’s U-10 team had a close match against the Midday Lions from Culpeper, losing 3-2.
The U-8 “Robins” won one of their games against a Madison team, 4-2, and lost the other match, 5-4. Dylan Corbin and James Lofton scored the goals for the Robins.
The U-12 all-girls team, coached by Maggie Rogers, lost to a Haymarket team by a score of 6-0. “It’s a learning experience,” said Mrs. Rogers.
“The Cardinals” and “The Cannonballs,” both U-8 teams, lost their games to Madison and Culpeper, respectively.
The U-14 team lost to Fauquier,
8-0. “We|were missing eight out of our 17 players,” said coach, K.C. Bosch.
