The board approved an additional appropriation of nearly $80,000 for the public schools. Much of the money is carry over for federal programs from the last school year. This comes up every year because the federal fiscal year is different from the state’s and county’s, Superintendent David Gangel explained to the board.
Another $24,596 is the final payment on the RJR Grant for computer education, and $29,800 is to pay for an additional special education teacher. However, the county can expect to receive about $50,000 more from the state because enrollment is higher than anticipated when the budget was adopted. Dr. Gangel said the schools have 1,050 students ■enrolled.
Mr. McCarthy reported that since the last meeting the Natural Resources Conservation Service had been much more helpful in making repairs because of damage from the June flood.
